Children of the Dawn: Part One - Rough Draft
« on: March 24, 2010, 07:08:09 PM »
?Nostalgia is a powerful thing? said Adam - contrast beneath the cool autumn light.
?Isn?t it beautiful though?? Eve sighed, continuing.
?I can understand why they wanted us to see this; perhaps they thought that we could somehow understand their mistakes? You know, through comparison??
?But really, what can we do?? He paused looking out into the simulated flora, the pungent aroma of lavender in the air.
?Even if we wanted to reverse everything that they did, the land outside of this place is completely irradiated, those old forests are filled with toxic spores and none of the plants that survived are even remotely edible; the only reason we?re still alive is because our bodies can metabolize electricity, and we can only leech off those old generators for a few more years.?
?I know dear, we?ve searched those old archives for so many years now; for some semblance of an answer, part of me is beginning to lose hope.?
?Hell? said Adam.
?We?re lucky that underground reservoir has lasted us this long without being contaminated; those fucking insects are drawn to it like flies on shit.?
The sharp sounding of an alarm belted off in the distance.
?Speak of the devil.?
Gasping and clattering, the stasis chambers decompressed.
?Perimeter breached ? Please make your way to the armory?
On the large screen in front of them massing hordes of insectoid warriors encroach on their bunker, screeching and howling ? lusting for blood. Adam and Eve rushed down the corridor; monitors flashing, they reached the armory and began to suit up for combat.
?I didn?t see an overmind; I think that our turrets can handle most of them?
?Well, let?s not take any chances? Said Eve as she climbed into the massive mechanical armor crouching against the wall.
The auto-turrets oscillated and began bursting out rounds at the horde - They scattered in an attempt to confuse the targeting system, and bolted towards the first turret moving at a feverish pace - strafing and jumping with a seizure-like intensity...

I know that this is starting to sound pretty 'Naussica of the Valley of the Wind' meets 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' meets 'Starship Troopers' but I'm going to throw in some 'Battlestar Galactica' type bullshit twists and try to bring in a bit of originality for the climax and the conclusion.

The story is going to be roughly a thousand words or so, I should be able to wrap it up in one or two more installments.
